"The internet has brought us closer to many things; music, technology, adverts for penis enlargement; but also, of course, the written word, simplest of all forms of entertainment to transfer across the web, and so, the world.

But Patchouli want to create a new kind of reading experience. From Beyond Belief will shortly be reborn into an ieBook, an interactive version of the novel where readers can email the characters. The publisher plans to flesh out the stories with biographies, music and film-reels which, if all goes to plan, should keep tech-friendly readers coming back for more."

"Peter Flynn is a perfectly sane and rational person. Like any logical man, he's always scoffed at wild tales of abduction by aliens. But then it happens to his wife. Gillian's reality has changed so radically that she only feels safe in the psychiatric hospital. Peter's initial horror at his wife's insanity is overcome by growing certainty that her so-called delusions are nothing more than truth.

Beyond Belief is reminiscent of the classic movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". Peter Flynn metamorphoses from skeptic to believer. Finally, with evidence from two UFO experts, he turns vigilante. Together they dissect the mass of fact and fiction surrounding decades of claimed abductions, only to discover a conspiracy involving governments, corporations, and the successor to the infamous Area 51.

Charles does an excellent job of dovetailing provable facts with urban legends. The resulting story creates such a thin line between fact and fiction that I sometimes expected bright lights to trap me in my driveway and hold me for pickup by the nearest alien. The middle of the book dragged a bit. Once the fictional case was proved to my satisfaction, I wanted to leap right into the conspiracy and confront any aliens immediately.

From Beyond Belief is careful and painstaking. It creates a strong sense of reality around the legend of alien abduction. One note of caution: it's more about conspiracy and intrigue than it is about space aliens. If you thrive on tales of UFOs and government coverups, you'll enjoy From Beyond Belief. "
